Schools’ Ministry Billericay (SMB) was established in 1992 to provide a Christian presence in Billericay schools at both a primary and secondary level and to support local teachers in the delivery of exciting and relevant R.E. material to the young people in the town. SMB has subsequently been actively involved in most of the local primary and secondary schools.
As part of Churches Together in Billericay, SMB employs two part time Schools’ Workers, Jane Andrews and Sue Reader. As team leaders they work with a dedicated group of volunteers and are committed to communicating the Christian message in a relevant way and helping the church to do the same. They have extensive experience of working in both primary and secondary schools locally and nationally.
Sue and Jane joined SMB as team leaders in August 2005 and have been involved with the ministry since 1998. Through presenting Christianity, it’s values and it’s views in a lively, interactive and relevant way, they and the team are able to help children and young people gain a clear understanding of Christianity.
They achieve this in a variety of ways delivering assemblies, lessons and lunch time clubs. They use material from a variety of sources including Bible in Literacy, Alf, Bible Explorer and Youth Alpha.
They also offer support to pupils and staff from a pastoral perspective in whatever way they can.
